Avitech Selected For Asian Games

December 4, 2006 - Redmond, Washington, USAAvitech International Corporation, a leading provider of multi-image display processors today announced that they have been chosen to be a supplier for the 15th Asian Games to be held in Qatar from December 1 – 15, 2006.  Avitech will provide their MCC-8004 series of multi-image display processors for a multitude of video monitoring applications for the games.

The Doha Asian Games Organising Committee (DAGOC) will host more than 1800 rights-holding broadcasters and 2,000 host broadcaster staff in its International Broadcast Centre (IBC), who in turn will provide over 2,000 hours of programming to 50 countries and regions with an anticipated cumulative audience over 1.5 billion viewers.  Located in the Qatar International Exhibition Centre, the IBC serves as the central operational, production, technical, and administrative base for the Doha 2006 broadcast operations.  The IBC is connected to all Asian Game venues by a broadcast & telecom network and is also the delivery portal of all the feeds.

This will be the first year that the Asian Games will provide HDTV broadcasts of the opening and closing ceremonies, as well as the athletics, swimming, diving, and gymnastics events.

Avitech’s multiviewers are being integrated into the system in several ways.  First, they are being utilized by one of the key broadcast & telecom vendors to double-check that all the video signals from the various stadiums and venues are received properly (more than 40 venues in total).  The signals are also viewed on Avitech multiviewers at the other end of the delivery chain before made available for final international transmission.

The Avitech media command center (MCC-8004) will also be used to display the video feeds in the various venues.  The processors will be used as multiple quad-splits on multiple screens, in full screen mode, and as a multi-image display processor with up to 28 video signals per display.

The processors of the Avitech multiviewers are built around the latest Avitech-developed MEDi™ technology.  This means that its revolutionary modular approach lets you build a virtual monitor wall system that is exactly tailored to the requirements of the operation.  This system is ideal for the Asian Games application, due to the demanding flexibility requirements.  In addition, there is no single point of failure to the multi-image display system.

“This is a huge event scheduled to be watched by more than 1 billion viewers, and we feel honored to be a part of the success and the overall challenge,” states Morris Gong, President of Avitech International Corporation.  “Our multi-image display processors are used for many major global sporting events, and we are confident that our technology provides the most advanced and high quality solution for the Asian Games.”
