Oregon Public Broadcasting Installs Avitech Multiviewers in HD Production
Facility Upgrade

April 17, 2007 - Redmond, Washington, USAAvitech International Corporation, a leader in
multi-image display processors announced that they have supplied Oregon Public Broadcasting (OPB) with ten MCC-8004UE multi-image display processing modules for the visual monitoring requirements in their recently upgraded HD production facility.

Located in Portland, OR, OPB is a statewide network of community-supported learning resources
including OPB Television, an affiliate of the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) and OPB Radio,
presenting local news coverage and the programs of National Public Radio (NPR), Public Radio
International (PRI) and American Public Media (APM). OPB creates the majority of the public
television programming broadcast throughout the state of Oregon and the newly upgraded HD
production facility will generate a variety of live events.

The Avitech MCC-8004 modules are used to feed a large 65” Panasonic display wall of extremely high quality images with resolutions up to 1920x1200 as well as a 23” Sony LMD for camera shading. The production crew has the ability to view up to 40 sources in either HD or SD-SDI, depending on the production requirements. The sources include an HD camera, a Sony MVS-8000 production switcher, and a Grass Valley 7500 WB routing switcher managed by an Encore control system.

The Avitech systems are designed to work efficiently in production environments, offering key
features such as; combining HD-SDI, SD-SDI and analog video sources as well as on-screen alarm indicators for video and audio status, exceptionally low power consumption, embedded audio monitoring, and tally, all while maintaining the correct aspect ratio whether it be 4:3 or 16:9.

The installation also features the Avitech Cosmos Control Software, which seamlessly controls the MCC-8004 modules. This software allows users to easily configure and edit presets on the display and is used to interface with the camera, routing switcher, production switcher, and any other 3rd party equipment. Cosmos is a Windows based program that can run on any PC or laptop with Microsoft Windows™ XP or 2000. Cosmos also has built in critical alarm and fault reporting capabilities.

“After close examination of the available multiviewer technology on the market, we choice Avitech because of their high level of quality, powerful video processing and the ability for us to combine HD, and SD video sources all on one display,” comments Don McKay, Vice President of Engineering, Oregon Public Broadcasting. “The versatility of the Avitech modules allows us to reconfigure the visual monitoring layout to meet the different production requirements for each event.”
