March 29, 2006 - Redmond, Washington, USA – Avitech International Corporation, a leading provider of multi-image display processors today announced that they have teamed up with a variety of key vendors for the upcoming FIFA World Cup series in Germany, to provide their multiviewers to monitor a variety of video feeds.
The 18th FIFA World Cup™ will be held in Germany from June 9th – July 9th, 2006 with all 64 matches being covered in HDTV digital format. In comparison with the 2002 FIFA World Cup™ Korea/Japan, only 48 matches were produced in HDTV.
The International Broadcasting Center (IBC) in Munich is the hub of FIFA World Cup broadcast operations. The IBC is connected to all World Cup venues by a telecom network and is also the delivery portal of all the feeds. HBS (Host Broadcast Services and designer of the IBC) is responsible for providing production, transmission, and other services to global broadcasters during the event.
This year’s soccer World Cup is making history with new technology playing a major role. And, Avitech is making a crucial contribution by partnering and providing multi-image display processing solutions to key technology providers of the tournament.
Avitech’s multiviewers are being integrated into the system in several ways. First, they are being utilized by one of the key telecom vendors to double-check that all the video signals from the various stadiums are received properly. The signals are also viewed on Avitech multiviewers at the other end of the delivery chain before made available for final international transmission.
The Avitech media command center (MCC-8004) will also be used to display the video feeds in the stadiums as well as the IBC. The processors will be used as multiple quad-splits on multiple screens, in full screen mode, and as a multi-image display processor with up to 28 video signals per display.
The processors of the Avitech multiviewers are built around the latest Avitech-developed MEDi™ technology. What this means is that the revolutionary modular approach lets you build a virtual monitor wall system that is exactly tailored to the requirements of the operation. This system is ideal for the World Cup application, as well as HBS and IBC (and their telecom partners) due to their demanding flexibility requirements. In addition, there is no single point of failure to the multi-image display system.
“We are thrilled that we can be a part of such an exciting event, such as the World Cup,” states Morris Gong, President of Avitech International Corporation. “Our customers strive for a leading edge production and smooth functioning processes, so we strive to deliver flexibility and a high level of price/performance to them.”
